Very is among my biggest pet peeves as a nonfiction book editor.

…. Readers will notice when we constantly repeat the same non-descriptive words over and over again. Adverbs like quite, very, and just are a few examples of words that don’t add much to your manuscript. It’s best to delete them completely, or at least severely limit them.
